David Hoobler

"Imagine a place where the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert meets the whimsical tales of a little tortoise named Zonk. That's where I found my inspiration, nestled outside Tucson, Arizona, where the stories and pictures of my books come alive. The Sonoran Desert, with its fierce monsoon storms, teeming with an astonishing variety of creatures and plants, and boasting breathtaking landscapes, became the beating heart behind my creations."

"But the Zonk stories aren't just meant to tickle children's funny bones and bring smiles to their faces. They carry a deeper message—a message about my deep-seated love for nature and the environment. I believe that in this crucial era, instilling respect and concern for our surroundings has become one of the most vital values we can impart to the next generation. Through Zonk's adventures, children are not only entertained but also gain a unique window into these important themes. Along the way, they absorb fascinating facts about desert and ocean life, expanding their knowledge and appreciation for the world around them."

"Before my artistic journey led me to children's books, I wandered diverse paths. Armed with a B.A. in Art Studio from Sonoma State University, I embarked on a career that took me through the captivating realms of film and theater arts. It was amidst the vibrant backdrop of the San Francisco Bay Area, where I spent my formative years, that my passion for painting and crafting captivating stories for children flourished."

"Today, I call Fairview, California my home, a place where my creative spirit finds solace and inspiration. As I continue to breathe life into Zonk's adventures, my hope is that these stories will not only bring joy and laughter to young readers but also kindle a flame of curiosity and love for our precious natural world within their hearts."
